Frequently Asked Questions

What does (NEW) mean in the Site areas menu?

(NEW) Points out new areas which have been added, this may be a new piece of software which is unrelated to any of the previous groups, or it may be a site page, like this FAQ.

What is the GUI for DOS or Windows?

Marlowe first created a program called MarloweOS, this ran on an old A3010, and emulated a GUI I had been inspired to make.

Later with the aid of BBC Basic for Windows, I was able to start again and build MarloweOS 7. This simple GUI allowed users to access files and folders on there PC, and using the Windows API  I was able to allow the user to open and view different documents.

Mid 2003 MarloweOS 8 started, and we began building a new GUI for DOS. This is half finished, and does at least work, however since there is no demand for it production has paused.

MarloweOS is not an operating system, but a GUI overlay for the OS beneath it.

Why does 4D require DirectX?

All 4D products use DirectX to render the 3D models, whilst we aim to make all of our programs self enclosed, (so not needing any extra files) we decided that using DirectX significantly increased the speed of these apps.

How does Marlowe Online deal with copyright issues arriving from the site contents?

Marlowe Online has sent numerous emails to the people at Paramount and at McDonalds, and of other websites, so far the only replies I have had have told me to put a note at the bottom, noting that if Paramount or McDonalds wish to have the page removed to Contact us via email.

Does Marlowe Online make software to order?

Marlowe Online's software is produced by me, and only me, and whilst I would be happy to hear any suggestions and ideas you have for programs, I may not be able to fulfil all requests, especially as I have limited programming skills. Please email any ideas, or entire project ideas to our contact email address.

Who is Andy?

Andy is a 20 year old 'Computing' Student studying at Portsmouth University (UK). Andy is on his first year and is studying Java, Computer organisation, Web organisation and design, and other topics. From University I maintain my Server which is hooked up at home, and uses my home broadband connection.

I also work as a Manager at McDonalds - but please don't email me with complaints about cold fries, because there really is nothing I can do to warm them up from here. Go back to your local store if you have any problems, and ask to speak to the 'shift runner'.

I spend most of the free time that I have, creating new content for this website. However, I am now spending more time on my studies, and I am going to be less able to do so much stuff.

I have written a draft book, 'the thinking behind a thought' which can be download from www.marlowe.tv/other/novel.rtf

That's about it really, my life summed up in a few lines.
